Good Linux Quote

In FedoraLand, people talk “Linux” and in UbuntuLand people talk “Ubuntu”.

Ubuntu folks are like mac users.. always all about their OS and how cool it is.. while i think most other linux folks are all about what they do with their OS. Their distribution of choice really does not matter too much to them.. they can get what they need from pretty much every distro.

Utility users i like to call them.

I have been running linux on one box or another for a loooong time. since back in the early/mid 90’s. I think slackware back in ‘93, and have flopped and flipped through most distributions, not really caring one way or another what the brand name was.. Now i am pretty much at the “if i need it i will install it/create it” stage.. making a distribution up as i need it based on cent or slack or whatever.

I have this idea… of creating a couple live cd’s … call them “MikeBuntu” heheheh

Air Car.. compress air.. run it though an engine of sorts and produce forward momentum. Old idea, new technology. I will buy one as soon as they are available for my commute to work.

Pretty sweet, a slimmed down version of linux with google desktop and functionality integrated. The deigners went a long way to make the interface look and feel good… only thing they didn’t really think about was… geeks want a commandline too :-)… a pain in the ass to get one.. had to go to the knowledge base and search on it since there was nothing in the menu’s to “shell out”

I have the live cd i ran in a VM .. i like it and hope to use it one day… maybe on a subnotebook… :-)

Visualization

February 1st, 2008  |  Published in General, Tech

I have been digging through tons of raw data at work, thousands and thousands of lines of raw uncategorized mess. I also have been playing with a bunch of XML and SVG. Man i love SVG, makes me have all kinds of cool ideas.. real sweet stuff. Wish i had the time.

Anyway, this is what my mind was thinking today, as created by graphviz.

The “Dot” file which is the data for the above image…

The coolest thig is that you can represent data as a graphic.. and with SVG you can link parts of the graphic with a web site or a file or another graphic.. the possibilities are endless for automating the visualization of large large piles of crappy data.
You know, Humanize it a bit.
